The Bronx to Westchester is one of the most common moves in the area: more space, a yard, a different school district. It is a short drive, but for a moving truck it follows different roads than your car.
New York State does not allow commercial vehicles on its parkways (NYSDOT: highways for commercial traffic). In the Bronx that includes the Bronx River and Hutchinson River parkways (NYC DOT: parkway restrictions for commercial vehicles), the two roads many people drive to Westchester. The same rule applies to Westchester’s parkways, such as the Saw Mill River and Sprain Brook. Low bridges on parkways are one of the reasons for the rule.
Trucks can use the interstates, so a Bronx to Westchester move usually goes up the Major Deegan and Thruway (I-87) toward Yonkers and the river towns, or the New England Thruway (I-95) toward New Rochelle and the Sound shore, with I-287 across the county. The crew plans the route before the move, so your arrival window is realistic.
Many Westchester homes have driveways, outside steps and garages. Tell us if the truck can use the driveway, if there are steps to the door, and whether anything is going to a basement or an attic. Some towns and villages have their own parking or street rules; if you are not sure, ask the town before moving day.
A Bronx to Westchester move stays inside New York, so it falls under our New York license, NYSDOT 34875. Ask any mover for their license number before you book.
Going from an apartment to a house means more rooms and more stairs inside the home. Label boxes with the room and the floor, and decide where large pieces go before the crew arrives. If something goes to a basement or attic, tell us in advance; narrow basement stairs change the plan.
